About UsOwner Tony Griego and Owner/Director Laurie Griego would like to extend a warm welcome to Cobblestone Children’s Center. It is our pleasure to serve you and your family. This handbook is prepared to give you information regarding the philosophy and policies that govern our Center, and to help make the transition into our “family” as smooth as possible. You are encouraged to discuss any questions or concerns with the Director or your child’s teacher. Again, welcome and thank you for choosing Cobblestone Children’s Center.
Philosophy Cobblestone Children’s Center provides high quality, creative and interactive learning within a safe and secure environment. Our commitment is to provide a program that meets your child’s intellectual, physical, creative and social needs. Our teachers are trained to provide the guidance and interactive learning experience with the personal attention your child needs. Mission Statement To provide your child a creative, interactive learning center while nurturing the whole child with direction from qualified teachers. Our interactive learning center is hands on: visual, auditory and kinesthetic. Your child will have the ability to create, grow and build friendships with other children while special attention is paid to their cognitive development. Our Concept Our concept combines learning within an active, social environment. This environment encourages children to create, extend and explore their ideas and natural curiosity. Because it is of their own interest, the curriculum validates their initiative, building confidence in each child. Our teachers are trained for the children’s level and development. They are flexible in moving with children through learning centers of the child’s choosing, encouraging and completing projects of the child’s own design. Through activities at the learning centers, children learn pre-reading and pre-math and science concepts. Guidance and Discipline The goal of our discipline policy is to teach the child to recognize and verbalize what they’re feeling, then to explore other possible choices. We use time-out in the form of redirection to another area of interest to calm and refocus the child. If a particular pattern of inappropriate behavior develops and continues without change, a parent/director conference will be scheduled discussing the child’s behavior. About Our Facility Cobblestone Children’s Center is open from 6:30am to 6:00pm. We offer both full and half days. Drop-ins are allowed if space is available. Drop-ins are only allowed for children who are enrolled at Cobblestone. Our program is developmentally based, so children will learn at their own pace without pressure or stress. We are licensed for 57 children, ages 3-12, who are toilet trained. If they are close in toilet training we will work with the child to finish the process. Our floor plan is an open, center-divided facility with a library, reading loft, puzzle station, puppet theater, creative movement studio, climbing walls, science and math lab, art studio, interactive cooking center and music center. The exterior areas include a mini- basketball court, bike path, sand play area, water play area, greenhouse, climbing rocks and natural play areas. We have a covered porch area with tables for manipulative play or reading, an outdoor art area and a tricycle garage with bikes, scooters and helmets. Security measures have been installed to ensure the health and safety of all children. Closed circuit TV monitors provide surveillance of bathrooms, class areas and outside areas. Nutrition and Hygiene We provide healthy meals your child will love. Breakfast is served from 8:15 to 9:00am. Lunch is served from 12:00 to 12:30pm. Afternoon snacks will be at 3:00pm and 5:00pm. If your child has specific food needs and/or allergies, please fill out the Food Allergy Action Plan. Otherwise, please do not allow your child to bring food, candy or gum to school, unless prearranged with their teacher. General hygiene is an important part of a child’s education. Children are encouraged to wash hands before eating and after toileting. Medications Only currently prescribed medication will be administered by the center. If your child must be given medication during the school day, please fill out the Medication Release Form and submit it along with the medicine in its original container to the director or teacher. Please do not store lip balm, cough drops, inhalers or similar substances in your child’s cubby. Illness Policy For the protection of all children, your child should be kept at home if he or she shows any of the following symptoms: a fever of 100 degrees or above, vomiting, a severe cold, persistent cough, diarrhea or rash. If your child exhibits any of the above symptoms, you will be called to pick up your child. Children are able to return to the center 24 hours after symptoms disappear. If your child has a contagious illness, please have a doctor confirm the illness and notify us immediately. Naptime Please provide your child with a small blanket and pillow inside a standard size pillowcase. Make sure your child’s name is on all items. Personal Belongings Children may bring a book with their name in it to share. Please leave all toys at home. Mark your child’s jackets, hats, and clothing with your child’s name. Arrival and Departure Parents with children enrolled at Cobblestone Children’s Center will have a personal code to gain entry to the front door. If another adult will be picking up your child using your code, you need to place that person’s name on a personal file card. As we must know whom your child will be leaving with, verification of identification will be required. All children must be signed in and out. Please make contact with a staff member when you drop off and pick up your child. Late Fees There will be a $1.00 charge for every minute late after 6:00pm. Those on a half-day schedule will be charged the same rate for being late after 1:00pm. Annual Registration Fee A one-time registration fee of $100.00 is due upon your child’s enrollment.
